Title: Strategy Director
Reporting Structure
1. Reports directly to Managing Partner, Strategy China & Hong Kong.
2. Will have communications planners/strategists report directly into him/her. These will be assigned to specific client tasks.
3. Work in close partnership with Insights and Creative teams.
4. Will play a key role in the development of businesses and the strategic and insights offering to clients as well as having an influence in the broader agency’s issues.
Base of Operation
Located at OMD Shanghai
Responsible for strategic operations and strategists primarily in OMD Shanghai, and OMD Beijing and Guangzhou.
Scope of Assignment
The Strategy, Insights and Creative teams will be the ‘thought-leaders’ for OMD China.
The team will be responsible for developing key insights and nurturing clear visions in business and communications planning for clients and defining the appropriate measurement benchmarks and success criteria.
This will require the adoption, application and evolution of OMD Worldwide’s thought development process and system – VISION.
This team is therefore tasked with building a recognised market-leading position in strategic-thinking and creativity, and driving OMD’s positioning as the most innovative (thought leadership) media and marketing business in the market.

1. Creation of the most innovative and creative communications community in China’s media services
- Adoption of VISION and its local evolution.
- Development of proprietary creative development workshops.
- Training and development of in-house strategists and comms planners.
- Identify new talent as required.
- Application of all necessary tools and mechanics, on a continuous basis.
2. Development and direction of ‘insight’ resources (with Insights Director).
- Syndicated research.
- Integration of Proprietary systems (regional).
- Development of Proprietary strategic resources (local)
- Develop unique strategic sources and manage internal discipline.
- Lead and develop key supplier relationships in this area.
3. Quality control all significant products
- Develop appropriate sign-off system for all major clients and projects, ensuring our work achieved high level of creative thinking and are awards winning.
- Direct involvement in key global clients, as required.
- Integration of OMG SBUs to deliver world class integrated solutions.
4. Build and promote all case studies through the Strategic community
- Source and record all significant examples to date, and future work.
- Help manage all ‘appropriate’ Award submissions.
5. Build relations with all senior and relevant Strategic industry leaders
- Planning Directors at creative partners.
- Strategic Media groups to build OMD’s reputation.
6. Integration of Strategic community within the overall OMD’s operational process
- Inclusion of all communities within creative development workshop.
- Sense check and continually evolve systems to ensure seamless understanding and execution of ideas.
- Case studies presented internally to excite and encourage.
7. Community leadership and management
- Creation of inspiring and rewarding operating culture.
- Clear setting of expectations and objectives.
8. Business development
- New revenue streams (organic) through consultancy projects.
- Apply strategic resource to creative partners/clients (selected) as means of entry.
- Lead strategic direction on new (key) business pitches.
9. Identify and develop relationships with key OMD Worldwide and regional resources relevant to the Strategy community
- Identify developments available for import.
